Need Quicktime to work same in PPT on Mac & PC

We are putting PPT presentation on a CD. It needs to work
the same on a Mac or PC. In one slide, we have a link to
QuickTime - to play an audio .aif file.
If we create the link on a Mac, it works fine on the Mac
but not on a PC. (error box says 'cannot open file') If
we create the link on a PC, it works fine on PCs but not
on Macs. We also need to have it work the same on Mac
OS's 8.n thru OSX.
Help?

Next, understand that Quicktime may not work at all on many PCs.
You might be better off with WAV sounds.
