Hi. I cannot boot into windows, safe mode doesn't help, and booting
into last known good config doesn't help. I can boot from a CD and
get that limited command prompt. I want to be able to restore my
computer to a previous saved state, but how do I do it from this
limited command prompt. I already found that scanreg /restore does
not work <miserable look on face>

HELP!

What really happens is that Windows stops responding to the mouse and
kbd after it boots, either in safe mode or regularly. This started
after I manually edited the registry to remove PGP (another story).
I have been regularly using system restore, so is there an easy way to
use the equivalent of system restore but from a recovery console?
