Hi freaks!

First of all a sorry for the cross post. But I'm not shure where to
post. I have a strange problem with my PC. But let me axplain.

Yesterday, after work, I came home, did my emails and some surfing. Then
I've started Sacred (RPG). I saw a few pixel errors. I've started the
game twice, with the same error.

I've started Diablo 2 then. Without any problems. Started Sacred again,
without a problem now. Worked well for a while, then the game crashed.

Restarting the PC resulted in those pixel errors right after the log in
screen, on the desktop. A try to explain the pixel errors. I have a
screen resolution of 1024x786. On the left side, after 1/4 of the
screen, 1/2 of the screen and 3/4 of the screen I have pink horizontal
lines, around 20 pixels long and one line every few screen lines from
top to bottom of the screen.

So I switched off and went to bed. In the morning I had the same
problem. Even during BIOS messages during boot up I have some problems.
Pretty rare, but it happens. Well, I thought it might be a thermal problem.

So I opened my PC, checked the VGA-fan, cleaned some dust, and it
worked. Well, I thought, that was it. Played a long time without
problems. Switched off, put the cover on the case. Worked pretty well.
Then the games crashed again.

During reboot during BIOS messages again the green squares. Three or
four times. Then this problem disappeared. I can now start a few times,
with the same lines immediately when the desktop appears. After 4 or 5
times they are gone. I write this report without the buggy screen.

First I thought off a driver or WinXP problem. But the errors during
booting show that I'm wrong.

I have a Epox board 8K9A 3+ and a Radeon 9600 Pro.

Any suggestions what I should try first? Don't want to buy a new board
and a VGA card.

Thanks in advance for your answers, Jimmy

This is typical of bad memory on the graphics card. Have you been
trying to O/C the 9600? If so, put it back to standard. This problem
will then either be fixed or turn up again later. If you weren't O/Cing
the 9600 then it should be RMAed.

Putting the case cover back on and the problem reoccurs? I would say
it is heat, and that would put me into agreement with GW, when the
chip/memory gets hot it can fail. Leave the case side off for a while
and see if the problem stays gone.
