Need help with Lupas Rename 2000 v5.0

|Hi and tnx for reading my message.
Sorry english is not my first language, I hope my question will be
obvious!

Well, because I need to rename a lot of file, I installed Lupas Rename
2000 v5.0 but I don't know how to configure Lupas to do what I want !

For example, I've a folder called "My_Cat" with a lot of picture named
001.jpg, 002.jpg etc.

The thing I want to do is to rename files like My_Cat001.jpg,
My_Cat002.jpg etc..
Like this it seems very easy to do that with Lupas and I will answer
yes.., but no ! Yes if you have to do that for a few folder but in my
case, I have a lot of folder like My_Cat, My_Car, My_House, etc. and I
don't know how to configure the program to do that "alone". What I mean
is that the prog read the name of the folder and use it as text to add
before the files and most important, do that for all folder I've
selected and do that automaticly.

If someone know the trick, please share it !
Maybe it's not possible, so if you kwow a freeware prog which is able to
do that, please give me the name of it.

tnx in advance

Lupas Rename
If you are working with subfolders, click button at top center that says
"Recursive Mode"
At bottom, check "Insert before the file name"
Now right-click in that field, select "Column Data - Path - First Subpath
from the RIGHT"

I hope that I have understood you correctly, and that this helps you to
do what you want.

Tom McD: Although I use a different renamer (Bulk Rename Utility), I
do have Lupas (so far unused) and I was curious. But I must be missing
some key point, as I cannot reproduce your instructions exactly.

After opening Lupas (2000 v4.0) I couldn't see a 'Recursive Mode'
button. But under the 'More Options' tab I enabled 'Work with
Folders'; is that what you mean?

Anyway, back under the FileName tab, I arbitrarily chose a folder
D:\Docs\SUNDRY\Art and enabled 'Insert Before'. But after r-clicking
and choosing 'Column Data', I see that 'Path' does not have any
sub-menus. Selecting just 'Path', I end up with '\2' in the 'Insert
Before' box. What does that mean? And the Preview window contains
entries like this:
D:,Docs,SUNDRY,Art,Another.txt

I'm not sure how to interpret that either.

Clicking Rename anyway, I get an error message saying that the files
have not been renamed.

Tom: You might want to try Jim Willsher's excellent Bulk Rename Utilty
http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php

Your requirement is easily handled by simply enabling 'Prefix' in the
'Append Folder Name' section, and optionally entering a Separator.

Hello, Terry! The "key point" is that OP said that he was working with
v5.0, and it makes a world of difference. The rename with path function
was broken in v4.0, as you found out.
After opening Lupas (2000 v4.0) I couldn't see a 'Recursive Mode'
button. But under the 'More Options' tab I enabled 'Work with
Folders'; is that what you mean?

I believe that refers to authorizing the program to rename folders, as
well as files, but I've not used it.
Anyway, back under the FileName tab, I arbitrarily chose a folder
D:\Docs\SUNDRY\Art and enabled 'Insert Before'. But after r-clicking

v5.0 has several options, allowing you to rename using the whole path, or
selected parts, the immediate folder being "first subpath from the
right". These right-click options, available in several fields, insert a
"code" representing the selected choice or choices. You can then work
around the code to insert other characters. For example, putting an
undeline character after the path code would insert an underline between
the path and the filename.
Clicking Rename anyway, I get an error message saying that the files
have not been renamed.

Yes, that's the rub. You'll notice that v4.0 tries to include the colon
after the drive letter (D:), and of course Windows chokes on colons.
Fixed in v5.0

As per your advice to T0M, I took a look at BRU, and you're right, it
easily handles his request, and it has a recursive mode if he needs it,
although I can't say I perfectly understood his description of his file
structure. BRU is now a valued part of my renaming arsenal. Thanks,
Terry.

Thanks, Tom - I missed the version! Have now upgraded to 5.0, which
works exactly as you describe.

Learning new sw is still a major time consumer for me. So I'll keep
Lupas around, but stay with BRU now as I'm getting familiar with it
