Need help with IE6 Kernel32 errors

Guest

I run Windows ME and IE6. When I open Explorer quite often I get an error
message indicating tha IE has caused an error in Kernel32.dll. When I click
the close button nothing happens and I have to boot my system to clear it.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks

Hi,
It's likely that another program is interfering with IE- possibly an adware,
spyware, parasite program.
See:
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
You should run Ad-aware and Spybot. Also note the security tips and
information on HijackThis on that page.

More security tips at http://www.aumha.org/a/parasite.htm

Or...
A legitimate program running in the background may be causing this. Disable
(for diagnostic purposes) programs such as pop-up blockers, security,
anti-virus, etc. Also... notorious for causing problems- Gator, Kazaa and
some others. You may have to reinstall, or not reinstall, a program.

There are other possibilities for KERNEL32 errors, including corrupted or
outdated video drivers
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/archive/answers.htm#kernel32
Start at Control Panel> Display> Settings> Advanced for information on your
video adapter/driver including (possibly) a link to the manufacturer's
website.

B. You may need new video drivers. Check the site for your video board
manufacturer. Meanwhile you can do the following:
1. Use the default mouse pointers.
2. Turn down your color depth. (Right click the desktop and choose
Properties | Appearance | Settings) Some people find that increasing color
depth helps.
3. Turn down your graphics hardware acceleration. (For Win 98, Start |
Settings | Control Panel | System | Performance | Graphics button) You will
see little, if any, performance degradation.
4. Turn off your desktop wallpaper.

If these make the problem go away you need new video drivers.

If you have an ATI video board, try adding these lines to System.ini

DevBMP=0 <--- That's a zero
