I cannot access yahoo main or mail pages on my main PC, but my other
computer (without firewall) can get it .I can access other websites with no
problem. So it seems like a firewall problem, but I don't know how to fix it-
security is set to medium, and I don't think I've "tossed my cookies" lately.
Can anyone help?

I doubt it's the firewall, but
uninstall 3rd party firewall, use windows firewall. (at least for now)
still a problem?

-hosts file
open this file.
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
(start..run..notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts )

Your prob is typical to spyware adding garbage to the hosts file

anything followed by # is a comment, so doesn't matter. Is there lots
of junk there? You can delete everything that doesn't have a #. May as
well leave the #

-try different browsers. e.g. opera, mozilla.

Note that running without a firewall, even briefly, is a very dangerous
thing to do.Whenever this is done, it should always be done in the opposite
order. Install the second firewall first, then turn off or uninstall the
first.

With the 3rd party one that I tried, the windows firewall didn't go on
while the 3rd party one is on - the 3rd party prevented it. Not
suprising since it's not recommended to run 2 software firewalls, so I
see why the - in this case - unfortunate - precaution was put in.
So safest to disconnect from the internet before and during changing
firewalls.

note- though a related point, i have found that some , 3rd party
firewalls , once uninstalled, enable the windows firewall straight away.

Thank you all for responding- just to update: the tech support for etrust had me turn off the firewall (without engaging another) and said that it's not the firewall- that the IP address is not "resolving" (whatever that means) so I've contacted the service provider. We'll see what happens-thanks again.
