CA eTrust Antivirus will not die!

Hi,

I have a Medion PC with a 90 days trial version of eTrust EZ Antivirus
7.1.0192.

Something went wrong when trying to remove this version from my PC. Windows
installer removed the files all right but the software is still registred in
the Add/Remove Programme list.

1. When I try to uninstall the CA eTrust software and eTrust Registration
once again the I get a message indicating the the .msi files is missing.

2. I have tried to reinstall eTrust EZ Antivirus software from the
installation set but the it tells me that a version of eTrust EZ Antivirus is
allready installed!

I have restarted Windows XP Home in safe mode and removed the following
services:

- eTrust Antivirus RPC Server
- eTrust Antivirus Real Time Server
- eTrust Antivirus Job Server

After restarting windows in normal mode I tried to re-do 1 & 2 but
unsuccessfully.

The missing eTrust EZ Antivirus software causes the Windows Installer to pop
up every time I right-click the Start Buttom to call up Windows Explorer.

Any suggestion on how to overcome this problem would be very much appreciated.

if you already have followed exactly the instruction for the link you
referenced. then, you may have different version of ez-trust. or you have
system restore setting on
take a backup of your system states, backup the registry as ca and
Microsoft recommended. If possible complete backup of your PC.
turn off system restore
proceed with registry cleanup

possible other alternative:
-go to the vendor website and look for cleaning tool of some sort again
- re-install and make a backup copy of the mentioned MSI(s) in a safe place.
note the location,
uninstall.
reboot
-if still registered:
restore the msi to the required location ( forgot where?, look for them
under registry)
- try uninstall again

failing the above or variations thereof, here is the last resort
- registry hack , take backup first

look under hklm root classes, hklm software... and take anything to do with
ez-trust or ca that you don't need., you may also have to look under current
user for the ID the install the software in the first place. don't just use
any id, the true administrator ID would be better for this job.
