Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) in conjunction with Microsoft Corp. today
announced
an offer to provide qualified Windows home computer users with a no-charge, one-year
subscription to
CA's eTrust EZ Armor antivirus and firewall desktop security suite.

eTrust EZ Armor -- the consumer version of CA's enterprise-class security technology --
will
dramatically improve the safety of individual home PC use, and greatly limit the
proliferation of
Internet threats.

CA will aggressively promote this special offer as part of Microsoft's "Protect Your PC"
campaign.
A download link for eTrust EZ Armor is featured on the Protect Your PC site on Microsoft's
Web site,
located at:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/.

"The widespread embrace of PCs and the Internet has put extremely powerful technology in
the hands
of consumers," said Toby Weiss, senior vice president
of eTrust solutions at CA. "To ensure the safety and integrity of the Internet
experience, we are
making CA's powerful enterprise-class security technology readily available to home
computer users
while supporting Microsoft's Protect Your PC campaign."

Experts agree that the large number of personal computer users operating without
up-to-date
antivirus software and/or a personal firewall collectively
represents one of the single greatest information security risks to users of the Internet.
By
offering eTrust EZ Armor for one year at no charge, CA is
addressing this critical issue for users of Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Millennium
Edition and
Windows 98/Windows NT.

"Helping Windows customers get more secure and stay protected is a top priority for
Microsoft," said
Tom Button, corporate vice president of Windows at Microsoft Corp. "We're very pleased
that CA's
eTrust EZ Armor software offer extends our Protect Your PC program and gives customers a
great
option for getting more secure."

eTrust EZ Armor is a $49.95 retail value. This free subscription for qualified Windows
users is
available for download through June 30, 2004, and provides one year of personal firewall
and
antivirus protection including daily virus signature updates. Complete information on
eTrust EZ
Armor software and CA's free offer is available at http://www.my-etrust.com/microsoft.

Big Snip.

Computer Associates, now where have I heard that name before? Let me
think ...............................
Yes, InoculateIT PE. "We believe every user should be protected, and
we are providing this product free as a service to computer users" or
words to that effect.
2000 I think it was "We are stopping production of our Betaware
Inoculate IT PE, but will continue to provide virus updates for as
long as the product is installed on your computer, however you can
update to our paid version at a special price, and download a 30 day
trial version before you buy" And the web page wording had been
changed from a free service for the computer user to a beta product.
A year later "We can no longer support InoculateIT PE because update
files are getting too big"
And now you are promoting timeware in this NG.
I may not believe in some of the strict rulings of the FAQ for this
group, but for me FREEware is FREE for life, not just one year and
then you have to pay.
Just my observation, It is a good product, but after all their lies I
wouldn't touch it with the proverbial barge-pole.

As far as I can determine, you'll be able to use the firewall, which is a
rebadged version of ZoneAlarm Pro, for as long as you'd like. You just won't
be able to update it after a year.

Now THIS is liteware and/or crippleware and definitely offtopic.

Costs me US$10 per year but I migrated from IncoculateIt. I don't know what
the normal rate is but I'd almost bet you could find out at the site. :)

This seems to be the full commercial version with one year of free
updates, same as you'd get if you paid full price for it.

It comes with eTrust EZ antivirus V6.1.7.0
- no email scanner, but otherwise seems excellent.
appears to use the Vet scanning engine.

And a rebadged Zonealarm (pro)? 3.7.179
Same as the free version plus a privacy option
- block pop-ups tracking cookies etc.
and more control of email quarantine.

I prefer it to the free eTrust for server 2003 promo
which is still available for download on the ca site
includes both the vet and inoculate scanners.
(overkill on a stand alone windows 98SE)

Thanks again for posting the link :)

I downloaded, uninstalled all other Firewall (Sygate) and anti-Virus
(AntiVir & Tech-Protect), rebooted, then etrust EZ Armor was installed
and rebooted, and rebooted, and rebooted, and rebooted, and rebooted,
did I say rebooted, damn thing kept giving what looked like a page fault
and then rebooting, constantly.
Finally had to Safe-Mode boot, remove etrust EZ Armor program and then
reboot again and reinstalled Sygate and my 2 anti-virus programs, upon
reboot this time everything was perfect.

I hope no one else has this trouble, but just thought I would say my
experience.

FYI - Win XP Home, 512 meg RAM, 80 gig HD (Nowhere near full about 20%)

And it works fine for me.

Sorry to prolong a semi-OT thread, but I'd like to mention something
that is hopefully more than an accidental glitch. I registered and
downloaded the EZ Armor suite, but during the installation opted for
installing just the AV part. After rebooting, it says I have a 1-year
license with 730 days left. It seems that since I installed half of
it, my license lasts twice as much! If this is not accidental, or
just plain wrong, I think it's a good deal. Back to InnoculateIT
days, indeed!
