For those of you who remember, and maybe used, CA's free antivirus
program until it became commercial, I've just got notice from PCWorld
that the successor program, e-trust EZ-armor is free for the next
year. After that, it will be available at "40% of the regular price".

The only catch is the requirement to register first. The download
instructions and activation code are then e-mailed to you.

I've never used EZ-armor, but the original freebie always worked well
for me even on my old 486 DX-2 with 50MB of RAM.

Is anyone out there familiar with the recent performance of this
product?

I use only the AV from them (trial version) and the FW from ZoneAlarm
Don't use the FW from them (no upgrades)

Hi,

I use their anti-virus program eTrust EZ AntiVirus and that works
perfectly. I have it installed on Windows XP, Windows 98 and Windows
2000 and I have never had any problems. It is relatively low on
resources and you get daily updates etc.

Bye Jan...

Yes, I stayed with them even through my change to Win XP home. Works
well...probably not the best in the world but then it didn't lock up my
'puter like Norton did. ;)

Price is 10.00 per year US which no one can complain about.

The offer for a free 12 month subscription has been available uninterrupted
since CA initiated the offer (November or December?). The offer expires
2/01/05. I'm not certain if CA provides the latest release (6.2) with this
offer. Even so, I don't think the improvements from 6.1 to 6.2 were major.

The upgrade to 6.2 is possible with the license they give to you.
There is possible too to upgrade the firewall.

Thanks for the review. Unfortunately, I've been unable to download it.

After I registered, they sent me an e-mail with the download link, the
key, and my chosen password (!).

When I followed the link, the text on the page said to click on the
"download now" button, but I couldn't find the button. After monkeying
around on the page for quite a while, I saw the button (it
subsequently disappeared and reappeared again briefly), but when I
clicked on it, nothing happened.

So then I clicked on the link offered if there was a problem with the
download, and that took me to a page that informed me I wasn't
"registered". Not too confidence building....

I'm thinking I'll try the antivirus provided free by Telus, my ISP.
Has anyone here used that?

This just goes round in circles, I can't get past the log-in page. Any
suggestions please ??

I think it also came with the windows update cd that came out awhile back

The "light" version - EZ Armour LE came on a second cd with the Windows Security Update cd.
The version I downloaded for free some months ago was EZ Armor - this had ZoneAlarm PRO
(3.7.179)

The light version had either ZA free or possibly ZA plus V4.xxx
(not sure which, but it lacks a lot of Pro's features).
Both came with EZ antivirus 6.1.7

Note

EZAV 6.1 doesn't scan incoming emails for viruses, so IF 6.2 is
available for free it would be worth upgrading.

Both AV and firewall will cease to function after a year (or
when the free licence expires) !!

It's been free for a year's trial for some time, via some sort of
Microsoft promotional deal. Microsoft wanted to be seen as
concerned about computer security, so they got CA to offer their
antivirus and firewall free for a year. I had the antivirus alone
on my computer for a few months, but found that I didn't like it
as much as AVG. You don't need to install both the firewall and
antivirus -- or didn't when I made the download.

I'm running EZ-Antivirus and occasionally it will tell me it thinks a
file has a virus, telling me to run the scan. I've got it set up to
automatically clean any infected file, but it doesn't even give the
name of the so-called infected file when I get the warning message.
When I do run the scan, it doesn't find any infections.

Any way to correct this problem? Is AVG a better product than
EZ-Antivirus?
