Need help with file-name that is too long

I downloaded a file that has a file name that is very long - some 80+
characters long! Every time I highlight in WindowsExplorer, WE
crashes before I can do anything.

I want to just delete the file, but I can't seem to. Help?

Thanks

Try renaming it if it has any suspect characters such as the so-
called "special characters". Name it something like Test123.ext.
where "ext" is whatever extension it now has and see if Explorer
can execute or look at it. If it is now OK, then rename the file to
something of meaning to you, perhaps close to its original name. If
you cannot get Explorer to rename for you because it crashes, you
may be able to rename it with an old DOS rename command in a DOS
window.

Good luck!

The DOS rename worked for me.

Great! Good ole DOS or in XP "DOS" to the rescue! Glad you solved
your problem.
