need help with custom-built pc

G

Guest

I just installed a fresh copy of windows xp professional. It's a custom built
pc, so I'm starting with fresh new hardware here.

Heres the stats:

Processor – AMD XP 2600+
Hard Drive – Maxtor 120GB
Video Card – ATI Raedon 9600XT
Sound Card – Creative Labs Audigy 2 ZS
LG CD/DVD Burner
DVD Drive – Standard DVD/CD Playback
Memory – 1GB Corsair Dual Channel
Mother Board – Abit NF7-S2
Power Supply – Demon 480W Dual Fan ATX

Anyways, I install windows xp professinal and all is well. Theres just 2
problems:

1) I can't edit any user info. i cant create new users, delete or
edit my password and picture, turn the guest account on or off, or make new
users. I always get an error message.

2) I only have access to some internet
sites. I can get onto msn.com and google.com, but when I try to go to
yahoo.com or microsoft.com I get an error message with 2 buttons. A "Don't
Send Error Report" and "Send Error Report"

the system cost me a good $1,300 so if anyone can help me to get this
running right it will help me out alot, plus i'll need it for college
comming up.

are you in the administrator account? (click "ctrl-alt-del" twice at welcome
screen to get old style logon; type in "administrator" prolly no pasword
needed, unless you set one, click "enter") go to user accounts from ctrl
panel and reset your regular account options.

hope this helps.

Look for Error Reports in Event Viewer and post copies here.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event
ID, Source
and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the
error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two
pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your
message
(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make
sure this is
the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.
about each and every Error Report.

In Event Viewer there is no facility to print Error Reports. A
workaround is copy and
paste the Error Report into an email, send it to yourself and print off
the copy in your
Inbox or your Sent Items folder.

Dear dahoge,

Did you install Windows XP from an original CD disk?

Before the installation of the OS, did you update the BIOS for your
motherboard?

After the installation of the OS, did you download and install drivers for
your hardware?

Did you download the drivers from the hardware manufacturers' site?

Please state the full error messages you are receiving

Dahoge,

That logs look really bad.

Try downloading & running Memtest86+ from http://www.memtest.org/
burn the program to a CD or floppy disk, boot from CD or floppy
respectively, and let the test run for a couple of hours. Report back if you
receive any errors while running the test

Try reinstalling your operating system (optionally from a different medium).

Is the memory compatible with your motherboard?

The following link refers to DDR400:
http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/products.php?categories=1&model=204

What have you installed?

Corsair recommendation:
