get these drivers and if they are on the reinstallation cd then i'm not able
to get them to load, I think I have all the cd's that came with this computer
but not able to figure out where these drivers are...they are eithernet
controller, multimedia audio controller, pci modem, and video controller (vga
compatible)...all these in the device manager has the yellow ? ! and in the
properties of these devices all them say's they have no drivers
installed...can some one help please.

That doesn't help. Dell model name (Inspiron, OptiPlex etc) is more useful.
I can't seem to find out where to get these drivers

Use another PC. Go to
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen
I think I have all the cd's that came with this computer
but not able to figure out where these drivers are...

It should have a label "device drivers" or something similar.
controller, multimedia audio controller, pci modem, and video controller

Sounds like you use XP OS setup CD from Dell. Some devices aren't installed
automatically. You'll have to either download them or use your Dell device
drivers CD.

I'm not seeing a device drivers cd so i'll follow the info on downloading
them and sorry about not giving all the correct info but it's a dell
dimensions 3000 if that is of anymore help but probably won't need that after
I get these drivers downloaded....thanks John

That's toooooo much kicks in the face for Him this week <G>
Blimey I wonder if he still can see the screen!!!!

Go to the link below if your Sister didn't have the CD with all the drivers
when she got the Machine.

http://search.dell.com/results.aspx...ra=False&~srd=False&ipsys=False&advsrch=False
Download the Network Drivers.

Or you can enter the Serial number to get the right drivers for your Chipset
and install it on Her machine.

Has it occurred to you to contact Dell Support????

Yes it has, but has it occurred to you that it is out of warranty?

If it's a Dell, these drivers are easy to get and the warranty status is not
a factor.

On the back of the system (on the bottom if it's a laptop) there is a
Service Tag. Log into the Dell Support site - you may have to create an
account, but it's free - and use the Service Tag number to locate all the
materials for that system.

In this respect, the Dell site works very, very well. You hardly have to
look at all to get the correct drivers.

All the info you need is the Service Tag number from the back of the system.
That and the Dell site gets you exactly what you need.

Nevertheless, the Dell website has the drivers and they can be downloaded,
regardless of the warranty status.

db.·.. >

if i'm not mistaken
dell has their version of
windows also referred
as an oem.

the letters oem always
appear in the windows product
key, that is if the windows
is an oem version.

maybe if you flip over the
computer you might find
a holographic sticker with
the windows product key
for that particular computer.

that being said, all the dell
drivers would have been
installed onto that particular
computer via that specific
installation disk provided.

however, if by chance a
regular/retail version of
windows was used to install
the o.s. instead of the supplied
oem version, then this might
be the problem you are
experiencing.

patrick provided you with
an excellent suggestion by
going to the pc homesite.

let us know what you discover.

If you're lucky and have one of the more recent Dells, you can consider the
possibility of rolling back to the factory-shipped version, by pressing
Ctrl-F11 at bootup. If you run that Dell system restore option, it will
restore the computer to just as it was the day it was shipped (incl
drivers).

Beware if you do this (actually run the Dell system restore), you will loose
anything and everything you've added since Dell shipped it.

If your system is like my Dell 4600, then the CD is labeld Drivers and
Utilities.

Ignore him. Google his name on here, PD43, or his previous name which was
Uncle Grumpy (would you believe) and you'll see why.
Total Pig that likes to insult people and not worth answering.

Product keys stopped including "OEM" years ago. I think Win98 was the last.
It may even have been Win95.

Won't be of any help if a person does a clean install.

Such an installation formats the drive before installing.

The WHOLE drive.

It is in essence a clean install, just as it was shipped from the factory.
No other install is necessary (except for installing the user application
software, obviously). But as I said, everything else on the disk is
history.

Normally, Dell ships at least one operating system CD and one driver CD
with each computer. Simply ask your sister where she stored these disks
for future use. Failing that, download the drivers for all of the
computer's internal components directly from Dell.

Or he could perhaps use the Dell System Restore at bootup, if still there
(on one hidden partition, but you will lose everything added since it was
shipped)
