I have two Windows XP Pro computers running on a LAN. Remote Desktop works
just fine from Computer A to Computer B but not from Computer B to Computer
A.

When I run Remote Desktop from Computer B and attempt to access Computer A,
it tells me I either have the wrong computer name or the domain name is
wrong. I know the computer name and both systems are on the same domain.

Note that I can access files and folders from either computer using My
Network Places.

Greatly appreciate any suggestions.

2 things to check, on computer A open system properies, go to remote tab, and make sure the check box to "allow users to connect remotely to this computer" is checked. If that is not the problem, and you are running a firewall on computer A, you may need to open port 3389 to allow RDP through.

Have you tried connecting with the IP address instead of the host name?

Have you tried connecting with the IP address instead of the host name?

Both PCs need to:

1) Be part of the same workgroup/domain
2) Have the same IP addressing scheme
A ---> 192.168.1.1
B ----> 192.168.1.2

3) Have the SP2 firewall allow the Remote Desktop to pass thru (if enabled.)
4) Have "allow users to connect remotely ..." turned on
5) Have a user account with a non-blank password

Many thanks to all who replied. I reset my password and now everything works
just fine.
