Need help using HP 5100C ecp port scanner with WinXP

Hi

I'm having trouble getting my scanjet 5100c working with XPHE. I'm
running as administrator on a Dell Dimension 8100.

Windows is using the WIA driver. I can force the driver to work but it's
very cumbersome. Here is what I have to do to get the 5100c's green scan
button to respond: ControlPanel -> System -> Hardware (tab) -> Device
Manager (button) -> Ports (LPT&COM)(select) -> ECP Printer Port (double
click) -> Port settings (tab). Then I select "Use any interrupt assigned
to the port" or "Try not to use an interrupt", whichever one is
currently NOT selected. Then I click OK.

After that, the scanner's green button will invoke the crummy, but at
least usable Microsoft scanning software. After the computer is shut
down, I have to go through this whole business again.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the LPT driver. After I manually set
the reinstalled driver to "Use any interrupt assigned to the port",
windows discovers the scanner and I'm back to the situation described
above.

I'm out of things to try at this point. Any advice would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I feel your pain!

It used to be very complex. Something changed and it is trivial now.

Here is the name of the latest driver. But what I had before also
worked and I can't describe that because it was many patches.

HP Photosmart 3511_enu_w2k_xp_release.exe

However, I forgot where it came from. Just try a google search or the
HP support site.

Before trying to install it, I would totally remove anything on there.
Including, going into the reg and searching for any references to 5100
or the folders it used. -- however, be carefull what you delete - only
items very specific to the hardware and not things another application
is using.

good luck

Lenny, here is the location where you can get the software you need.

If you have installed any older HP software then I would go to add/remove
programs in Classic control panel and remove
it. Disconnect the printer from device manager and computer before
installing the software.
