How to get an old HP 5100c working under XP??

T

Toby

As usual HP sux with providing drivers for new OSes. And Windows is even
more confusing...

HP recommends using the Windows Image Acquisition driver, and the Microsoft
Knowledge base lists the 5100c as a supported scanner, but when I go into
Scanners and Cameras in XP Control Panel only three HP camera drivers are
listed--no scanners. Windows recommends going to WindowsUpdate for newer
drivers but I can't find a d*mn thing there, and their recommendations of
third-party driver sites lead me back to HP to complete the grand,
time-wasting circle....

Anybody know where I can get updated WIA drivers for XP Pro???

TIA,

Toby

Have you connected and turned on the scanner to see if XP will load a WIA
driver.

Windows update will not find new drivers until the old driver is installed
and running.
Windows update will not update what is not on your computer.

If you have the original Software CD for the HP 5100c, install that software
and then install the update from HP. Download the update first before
installing the software on the CD!

From what little I understand, that scanner is a 16 bit scanner, XP is 32
bit and never the twain shall meet. HP was not (if I remember) going to
support that scanner for XP. Go to the HP site for sure.

I have the same scanner and it works fine using the XP WIA drivers.

If you want to use the old HP Precision scan software, there are some hoops
you have to jump thru but it does work fine.

If this is too hard, you can try Vuescan at hamrick.com
