Using the "WIA-hp LaserJet 3030 1.0 (32-32)" software path
works fine.
The immediate cause of the problem is that the
hp LaserJet TWAIN 1.0 (32-32) does not exist. I think that
the problem may do to the hp LaserJet 3030 printer being
installed after another scanner device.
The system with the problem is a Dell Precision 380 running
Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3.
I initially installed an HP LaserJet 3030 All-In-One printer
using the parallel port. I then installed an Epson Perfection
3200 Pro. I was able to use both the Epson scanner and the both
scanner software interfaces for the LaserJet 3030. I am using
the Epson IEEE-1394 interface on the system with the problem.
When I connect my other machine to both the LaserJet 3030 and
the Epson using the scanners using the USB interface from
both devices everything works fine. (I don't want to mess up
this machine by using the Epson IEEE-1394 interface or the
LaserJet 3030 parallel interface.)
Since I am getting rid of the other machine I decided to switch
the Dell Precision 380 to use the USB interface on the LaserJet
3030. I followed HP's instructions for removing and reinstalling
the software.
When I got done I found that I could not Scan and Send Fax
programs no longer worked and that only one of the two software
interfaces for the scanner were installed. I could use the
second (WIA-hp LaserJet 3030 1.0 (32-32)) software path with
other programs, but the hp Scan and Send Fax use the
"hp LaserJet TWAIN 1.0 (32-32)" software path and get the
errors described below.
I spoke to HP and they say that using two scanners on the
same system may not work. They suggested uninstalling
both the LaserJet 3030 and the Epson and reinstalling in
the LaserJet 3030 first. I don't want to remove the
Epson except as a last resort since I don't want to get done
and find the I can't scan from either scanner.
Switching back to the printer (parallel) didn't work.
When I try to use the Scan, Send Fax, or a third party
program to use the hp LaserJet TWAIN 1.0 (32-32) software
interface I get:
1. first, the normal dialogue and the startup window that has
the "hp invent" logo, a drawing of a scanner, and
the heading "HP Scanning"
2. then an error popup window with title "hp scanning"
that looks something like:
(X) Sorry, could not find required user interface files.
(Please reinstall scanning software.)
[OK]
3. If I wait long enough, I get a popup window with title "Error"
that looks about like this:
/!\ Unable to communicate with HP scanning software. Please verify
that it has been installed and is working properly. If
this problem persists, please shut down your application
and try again.
[OK]
***And then, depending on the program, the Epson scanner dialog
may start.
HP support tried deleting all of the HP related Registry entries
and all HP programs in Program Files and reinstalling things, but
the hp LaserJet TWAIN 1.0 (32-32) software interface doesn't
get installed even though there are no error messages.
Any ideas as to what we may be the problem? Perhaps there
is something in \WINDOWS that HP didn't look for or a Registry
entry outside of
My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hewlett-Packard
and
My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\hp
Thanks.
Have you looked on the install cd for an uninstall option?
You would need to unplug the HP Multidevice from USB and Parallel port.
Uninstall all of the HP software.
Start > Run type regedit(OK).
Collapse all open branches, select My Computer, Edit > find.
Search for all instances of HP. (assuming that the only device you have that
is a HP brand).
carefully remove all references to the HP Multidevice.
Reboot the computer.
Do not plug in the HP device until the HP software is fully installed or the
software asks for the device.
At some point in the HP software installation, the software will ask to plug
in the HP Printer/scanner.
At this point is where the software determines where the scanner/printer is
connected.
