Need help reseting screen resolution

I need help to easily reset the screen resolution on my computer. I
accidentally set it too small for my monitor to handle and the monitor is now
black (except for two lines going across it) I know usually if you wait 15
seconds without doing anything it should have switched back to the settings
it was at before, but it didn't

Could someone help me to easily reset these settings?

Try booting to 'Safe Mode'.
(press the F8 key during the initial power up sequence)

I tried it, the resolution is fine in safe mode, but I cant seem to figure
out how to set the resolution so it stays when I reboot it in normal mode

Can you access the Control Panel/Display option when in Safe Mode?
If you can then click on the 'Settings' tab and try changing the resolution.

Ok, Safe Mode helped me inderectly. I couldnt change the settings in Safe
Mode. I had previously tried to use system restore for the boot screen, but
it couldnt find any restore points. When I tried system restore in safe
mode, it found a restore point from last week, which fixed my problem
