Need help please.

I have a pc that I rarely use to access the internet but I used it the other
day to send an email. There were 20 or so emails waiting for me (Outlook
Express) but I didn't open any of them , I just deleted them all. I remember
there being rather a lot of disk activity which seemed to go way beyond what
I would expect. When I shut down some other windows I had open I noticed
there were 3 Winzip windows open even though I hadn't been using winzip.
They didn't contain any files, just an error message but I cant remember
what it said. The other strange thing I noticed shortly after is that when I
start Corel Draw instead of opening full screen it now opens in a small
window. Apart from that everything seemed normal until this morning when I
tried to run a small disk archiving utility called SmartCat97 (quite an old
one) which failed to open with the error message Memory access violation in
module kernel32 at 6361:71788634. I tried re-installing but no joy.
Everything else appears to be working ok. I can still connect to the
internet for example.

I did a search on Google and the symptoms seem a little like the Swen virus.
I checked my c:\windows\applog directory but I don't have a file fjufio.lgc
which apparently indicates the presence of this virus. The only files to be
added to this directory recently are cujlfpl.lgc and mkyaeyea.lgc but I
can't find any info on any of them.

I'm thinking of downloading the AVG antivirus software to see if this fixes
it (I'd prefer a free one)as opposed to Norton or Mcafee) but I would
welcome any other suggestions in the meantime.

Do you have a wireless network?

What good will that do? This is the second troll for viruses I've seen
from you here in a short time. Anyone sending them to you is a virus
spreader. And that ain't good.

AUCH! Don't spank to tough Art.

The problem is now solved. It was indeed the Swen virus and I would like to
thank John Smiht for his invaluable help and for sending me the fix to cure
it.

There were 2 files mkyaeyea.exe and cujlfpl.exe which contained the virus
and which had been added to my c:\windows directory.

Thanks again John, keep up the good work.
