How do I get cmpletely rid of Outlook in order to do a clean install?

Purchased a new machine
Dell Dimension E521
AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 3200+ 2.0 Gig
1 Gig Ram
Windows Vista Premium 32 Bit

I did not order any software since I am happy with what I already have.
Even though I didn't buy it, It came with MS Office Small Business 2007. But
no product Key. Useless, Huh?

The first thing I did was go to Add/Remove programs and un-install Office
then install my copy of Office 2000 Pro. Then proceed to set up Outlook for
my e-mail.

The first thing the setup wizard tells me is that another version of Outlook
is
installed on this machine prior to installing Outlook 2000. Do I want to use
this
that version to read electronic mail. Yes? Or No? I tell it NO, and it
proceeds
to setting up my profile.

So far so good.

I set up my profile and every thing looks OK. I transfer my personal PST
file from
the old machine and setup personal folders and address book in the profile
and point to my personal PST then save and exit.

Still So far So Good.

I double click the Outlook Icon to launch Outlook and GUESS WHAT! The damn
SETUP WIZARD starts again with the same message as the first time I ran it.
If I check the NO box, I do get into my E-Mail. If I check the YES box it
goes through the
whole setup again as if I had never ran it before. NOT GOOD!

I am thinking, maybe I screwed up some where in the installation, so back to
ADD/REMOVE programs and un-install OFFICE, re-install and start over.

The STUPID OUTLOOK Startup wizard does exactly the same thing.

My thinking is that ADD/REMOVE Programs does not totally remove Office and
all it's
components (i.e. Outlook) and it thinks that outlook 2007 is still installed
as
well as Outlook 2000. I can't find anything on TechNet about this nor can I
find
how to completely remove Outlook if that is truly the problem.

Please help. My wife wants to trade me for a new IT guy that has all of the
knowledge to get her e-mail back.

Same thing happened to me, but there's a couple of minor differences -

My shiny new Dell E520 runs Pentium D915 (Dual Core 2.8 GHz), so
running 32-bit version of Vista Home Premium. Also, no Office products
appear to have been pre-installed, but I get the same results when I
run Outlook 2000, and saw the same silly messages repeatedly. Not sure
how to get around this one just yet, but I'll post something if I
figure anything useful out. My gut feel is that there's a funny set of
permissions and new paths to a lot of things that were "well known" to
be elsewhere in previous releases of Windows. My better half has the
same model (I bought them both at the same time), and with Outlook
2003, she get some weird permissions problems when she tries to send
and receive e-mail, so there's problems all over the place.

Anyway, I wanted to let you know that the whole Outlook 2007 piece you
mentioned may not be relevant to what is really going on, but other
than that, I don't have much else to offer yet.

Regards,

Mike
