Need help - File System corruption

G

Guest

My system disk got corrupted, as I was trying to merge two partitions via
PartitionMagic. Since then, I installed XP on my second disk, and using a
file recovery utility (Active File Recovery), I can now see and recover my C:
files.
My problem is however, that although the recovery tool shows all the C:
files, it does not show the right folder structure: all folders show as
siblings under C: - also the original folder names do not appear (the tool
shows some default folder names).
I do not thing the problem is due to a limitation of the recovery tool - I
suspect MFT corruption.
My question is, how can I recover, either via another tool or through the
Recovery Console. (I use XP Home - the C: disk is NTFS, 120GB)
Thanks -Nathan

Hi,

Partitioning work has always had its inherent dangers. I've never trusted
that merge feature in PM. At this point, you need to either bite the bullet
and start clean, or bring it to a specialist for data recovery before you
start over clean (and bring your wallet, as this won't be cheap). Either
way, you will need to eventually remove the existing partitions and create a
new one from the free space before doing a clean installation.
