Need help changing a setting in Word to keep program open

When using Word '07, I go to close the doc and the program ends up closing too.

I've searched all of the toolbar options to find the option to add a 'close
document' "X" in the upper right corner like it appears in Excel - it seems
this issue only exists in Word.

Can someone help?
Thanks!

Click on Office Button | Word Options | Advanced | uncheck the "Show all
windows in the Taskbar" box | OK. This will give you two Xs in the
upper right corner... the upper one closes Word, and the lower one will
close the current document but not Word.

Click the Office button, choose Word Options, go to the Advanced tab,
scroll down to the Display group, and uncheck the option "Show all
windows in the Taskbar".

The main effect of this is that when you have two or more documents
open at the same time, each one gets a sub-window inside the main Word
window -- and each of those sub-windows gets its own 'x' button. But
you'll only get one Word button in the Windows taskbar, instead of one
for each document. To switch among documents, use View > Switch
Windows or Ctrl+F6.

The alternative is to use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+W or Ctrl+F4 to
close the active document, or click the Office button and choose Close
(equivalently, Alt+F and then C).
