I just hooked up an external CD/DVD player on my computer, am on Windows
2000.. when I popped a DVD in player it says my computer lacks a
decoder it needs for playing DVD's.. it's probably something I can
download.. any suggestions of what/where I can find this decoder would
be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much..

To play a DVD you need either A video card that supports DVD play, Most
16meg graphics cards are suitable such
as NVidia Voodoo Geforce
Or you can buy a hardware decoder to add to your existing Video card, but
the video card must have a "Feature connector", its easier
to buy a new video card

Second , you need to install a DVD software player, examples are WinDVD,
Power DVD, and are available from the web.

Some video cards supply one of the above as bundled software if you buy a
retail version (that is one that comes in a box with a manual, instructions
and
a guarantee, as opposed to an OEM which comes with clingfilm and nothing
else)
