Need an Opinion on Attach Template in a document

I would like to have to know what some of you prefer when using Template. Do you prefer attach the template to the document you are working with or not. See I think that if someone attach their template to a document and send it to others (who do not have the template on their machine) to work with, it is slow to open the document. And sometimes the document (styles) does not behave properly. On the other hand if you remove the template and attached the normal.dot to it, well that's cause a lot of problem with the document. In my office we are more than one person working on the same document at different time and not all of them have the template on their machine.

Hi Louise

To avoid delays looking for templates, use a template on your local machine,
not one on a network server.

To avoid problems of styles not working properly (whether attached to Normal
or a separate template) make sure that you do not have 'Automatically update
document styles' checked.

To get maximum value out of templates when several people work on the same
documents, share the template.

Louise,

The only advantage to attaching a specific template to a document is to have
its macros and keyboard, menu, and toolbar customizations be available in
the document. Of course, this only works if the template is shared with the
users of the documents based on it.

When possible we do share the template and the template is always localy
install on the machine never on the Network. But it is not always possible.
I work with group of people who use word some of them often, others nearly
never (and some are in the same office - other are all over North America).
They send me their part of document and I do all the formatting. That's why
I wanted to know what is best, I tend to prefer having the normal.dot attach
to my template and avoid the delay for the one who do not have the template.
But just wanted to make sure that there was no advantage of attaching
themplate to the document that I did not know and would be missing on the
long run.
