Need a Vista Internet Security complete package

R

RScotti

Hi
I need a Vista compatible Internet Security package that has ALL the features and don't mind paying for it provided it
does everything.
What I think I need:
Virus protection,In and Out going Email scanning,Firewall, Automatic Updates,Spyware,Adware,
Intrusion protection,Phishing,Spam etc.

I bought the Norton IS 2007 only to learn that Vista will not install with it so I have to return it.
I saw a package for the CA Internet Security but can't find out if it is Vista Compatible and don't know if they have a
60 money back policy like Norton does.

Any help on this would really be appreciated since you know which programs can be used.

Hi,

Nothing's fully Vista compatible yet as it's not finished code yet. Wait
until it goes into release, then start shopping.

Hi,
I only asked now since I only have a 60 day money back on my Norton product.

I am surprised that they would release a product 4 months before Vista and not have some compatibility.
maybe they plan on an update for when it Vista is released?
There not saying much about that.

Hi,

I was surprised as well that NIS2007 was released without Vista support, and
no they're not saying much about it. Return it, you can always repurchase it
later if necessary (though it wouldn't be my recommendation) and Vista
support is added.

If I do that I will be without protection. I guess I have to take a chance an hope it does have support.
I really can't see how a major vender could survive without support for Vista.
(though it wouldn't be my recommendation)
What IS your recommendation?

Hi,

Recommendation? Not large commercial AV vendors. Best luck I've had is with
AVG (for AV only) and Kaspersky (full security product, not sure if they are
supporting Vista yet).

Thanks I check it out.
I only sent this message because I thought where you are testing Vista you must have some form of protection?
I can't believe you would be on the Internet without that.

Well, duh, vista does spyware (defender anyone), has a firewall that block
incoming and outgoing (admin tools: firewall with advanced security),
phishing (both IE and Windows Mail have it), intrusion protection see
firewall etc. As for AV, AVG free, Avast now works again with rc1, CA Etrust
(or whatever they call it).

Thanks Peter,
That will help me get started.

I know what you mean, I was a Technical Beta Tester from 1993 to 2000 worked on all Windows,Office and IE
and was a member of CLUBWIN. That's a memory!
I miss getting all that free software from MS. Do you guys still get that perk?
You'd be scared by some of what I try.

Naw, most beta's don't end up with a free copy anymore. Probably because the
number of technical beta testers used now is 100x that of the W95/98 era.

Avast has an AV that works fine in RC1, it was just released. Again a
small footprint. The firewall is two way now so there might not be much
of a need for 3rd party firewalls. I haven't tried Kerio personal
firewall in it yet. The Vista Upgrade Advisor said to uninstall it for
the upgrade then reinstall. I didn't have it on the XP partition I did
the upgrade test on so I'll try installing it later today. Windows
defender is available in Vista. I really don't think you need to put
out the money for a suite.

Hi Rock,
Thanks again for your valuable input.
PS Didn't know you were a beta tester but I should have guessed.

That's to bad.
I know we deserved it.
we had to do a clean install on EVERY build and it was getting very time consuming but it did work better.

....which is why it's silly to offer to pay for a product now and expect 100%
Vista compatibility. Vista's still in beta; so are all the third-party
security tools that are being updated to support it. Save your money for a
Vista-compatible security suite for when it's actually out. In the
meantime, kick the tires with some of the betas.

You have very good advise however I already made the mistake of buying both NIS 2007 and Partition Magic 8.05 both need
updates and yes your right nothing available yet.
