NEC 2500A DVD/ CD RW

Have replaced my old Samsung SW 232 with new NEC 2500A rewriter. OS XP Home.
Also have Samsung DVD/CD ROM reader. Both IDE / ATAPI.

Computer sees both drives, but as read only. Neither XP's native
functionality nor Nero, allows me to burn CDs. Nero doesn't even try - it
insists on sending a CD image to HD. XP seems to spot it's a writer, but
then claims there no disc in it.

Any advice?

The obvious thing - how old is NERO?

If you are using an older version try downloading the latest version
at testing it.
