NEC DVD writer problem

John Lowe

Have just installed a NEC ND3500AG dvd writer into my system. (WINXP Pro ).
Have an AOPEN CD rewriter as master and the NEC as slave. WINXP has both in
Device Manager OK.
Windows explorer shows the NEC as a CD drive and not DVD. Have Nero v 5 and
that doesn't show the new drive at all only the CD RW.
Is it a software issue? Replaced a Sony DVD read only machine with the NEC
and that was recogniosed OK by XP and Nero. What am I doing wrong??
Many thanks,

I don't know about NEC drives, but I had a situation with some Plextor
drives and yours may be similar. The Plextor DVD did not want to be a
slave. So I changed it to master and I thought it was working, but drive
lights were not behaving as predicted and one drive would disappear
occasionally. The problem was I also had a Plextor CD burner that wanted to
be master. I ended up taking the Plextor CD Burner off and just using a
basic CD drive in its place.

I've got a Lite-On DVD burner and three hard drives. The burner wouldn't
work as Secondary slave, so I made it master and my 3rd hard drive slave.
No problem with either. Have you tried making the AOPEN CD writer Primary
slave? If that works, then you could make the DVD burner Secondary master,
If you have another hard drive, you could make it Secondary slave. Not
saying it'd work, but anything is worth a try... :)
