I have a NEC DVD R/RW.
Since a while it does not recognize CD's.
DVD's is no problem.

Does somebody know where or what the problem could be??

Thanks in advance for your reactions.

If it recognises no CDs (i.e. its not a problem with the actual CDs your
trying in the drive then assuming other media is correctly recognised, its
likely a hardware fault with the drive (different laser beams are used with
CDs vs. DVDs and the CD one may be faulty). If its still under warranty I'd
recommend you test it in another machine just to confirm the fault and if
still present return it for repair/replacement.

Do you mean commercial CDs or ones that you burn yourself? Have you tried
to burn one and see if it plays?

Thanks Paul,

I will check this and, if no result, return it as it is indeed
under warranty.

Thanks,

Hello Jimmy,

both types of CD's give the same result.
I guess the only way to solve this problem is to return
this drive as it is still under warranty.

Thanks

Yup. I would say that is the quickest way. Then if the new one does the
same thing at least you know what it is not. Good luck.
