Near the end of Win XP pro +SP1 boot process an unwanted window pops up and stays until closed. I would like to get rid of it but cannot find a way.

It is not being run from the registry or the start-up folder, how else is it loaded?

What does a scan with a current antivirus program (meaning a version not
earlier than 2002 and using updated virus definitions) show? Also,
remove spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy from www.security.kolla.de
and Ad-aware from www.lavasoftusa.com. Be sure to update these programs
before running them. It is best to run antivirus and spyware removal
tools in Safe Mode.

After you are sure your computer is clean, if you still need help please
repost. Be sure to tell us what you've already done to troubleshoot.

I have run Adaware, Spybot and NAV pro full scan. The folder C:\program files\creative still displays as an open folder at startup and has to be closed manually.
Contrariwise the Creative Splash screen does no longer appear

Malke,
I have run the Spybot Search & Destroy programme and a full scan of NAV pro 2004 and nothing is detected. The folder still pops open towards the end of Windows loading.

You didn't actually say what the window is or says. Do you have any more
information about it? Of course it is being run from the registry -
everything is - it's just that finding it is hard. I would not only run
Spybot; I would also run Ad-aware. I find that using the two complement
each other. Be sure to update both programs first. I would also leave
the unwanted window open and run Task Manager and carefully note all
the programs and processes that are running at that moment. Another way
to look at it is to log in as a different user (create an account if
you need to) and see if the windows opens then. If it doesn't, then you
definitely know it's something specific to your user account. You can
also try HijackThis from www.merijn.org and compare the log to others
posted on the forums on www.spywareinfo.com. Since I can't see your
computer from here, you'll need to do further Sherlocking. Post back
with more details if you need more help.

Malke,

I eventually found that the cause of this was a registration reminder that had been partly left behind by Creative Audigy after I had done the registration of an upgrade. So it was popping up the Creative folder in Program files and showing all the sub folders but not getting any further because it had already auto deleted the hyperlink to the registration web page.

I'm glad you found the answer, John. Thanks for posting it so we can all
learn.

Cheers,
