My daughter's computer running WIN2000 Professional with
legal CD is generating the following message:

Cannot find NE2000SYS File.

She cannot connect to her college network, so she can't
download files that might help, and the college's IT team
doesn't know how to fix it. I am 150 miles away and
probably can't be of much help anyway. Does anyone have
any suggestions? Thanks, in advance. Jim Keenan

If her computer has the standard W2K installation, she
should be able to find the file in driver.cab:
"c:\winnt\driver cache\i386\driver.cab"
The file name is really ne2000.sys, and is used by many
OEM network card vendors that make a Novell compatible NIC.

Use Winzip to extract the file, and copy the file to an
appropriate location, (e.g. c:\winnt\system32).

She may need to go to Device Manager, and update the
driver for her network card. If so, point to the
ne2000.sys file that was extracted.
