Navigation Frustration

Bob P

For the life of me I can't figure out which button to check in the
navigation properties for the nav pane on the home page. The nav view has
the home page with all the other pages listed under it in the tree, but I
can't get all the pages to appear in my home page like they are in all the
other pages. What am I doing wrong?

Try selecting Children under Home in the Nav Bar properties, and
include the Home Page.
If the same nav bar is used in all pages with shared borders or
dynamic web template, then all pages will have Children under home.

Thanks for the suggestion, Ron, but I still can't get the nav bar to appear
correctly on my home page. I've tried every combination of nav bar
properties I can think of but still no luck. I'm using FP2000, by the way,
if it helps to know that.

Make sure your home page file name (index or default, .htm or .html) is the same as that required by your online host

Actually, the index.htm is a swf file that executes first then switches to
home.htm

Does that make a difference?

No
- you can only have 1 home page and it must be named as required by your host
- you can not make any other page the "home" page in your nav view

If you want the home.asp page to be the "home" in nav bars,
(to be other than the splash page - now index.htm)
- you need to create a root web w/ just the splash page in it and a subweb w/ all other pages in it
(again renaming home.asp to the file name required by your host - index or default, etc)

Can you walk me through the steps necessary to move the existing index.htm
to the root position leaving all the others as subwebs? I'm guessing this
process is a matter of creating directories, but can't be sure

S

Stefan B Rusynko

Create a new folder in the root
Move all your files in you site, except index.htm and its media to that folder
In that new folder rename home.htm to index.htm
Right click the folder to convert to web
Double click the new web folder to open the subweb
- and create your nav view (plus any themes , etc), close the subweb
Publish the root (including subwebs)
