Navigating within tables?

Hi all,
i recently started a thread to the effect that i had read somewhere
that frames where no longer preferred to to problems which may be
created when viewing at different screen resolutions etc.

Someone posted an alternative solution to frames,i.e the use of
Tables.

I use FP 2002 and i have a big text book which i find is useful. I had
a play about with tables and i get the idea of how they work but i
can't quite get how they can be a substitute for frames with regard to
site navigation.

Could i for instance, put some kind of menu setup in one cell of a
table and refer it to another cell on that same page so that selecting
an item in that menu, loaded the slected content into the other cell to
which it is reffered i.e in the same way as you could have a left
frame containing a common menu and clicking on an item loads content
into a right frame?

What many people do is use the FP include page feature for the menu. You
would create a table with your menu items on a separate page. Then, on each
page you would create a master table. In the left cell/column, you would
place the included page. When the menu item was clicked, it would bring up
the appropriate page. Read the help files for more information on include
pages.

shared borders is possibly another solution but it won't keep your menu 'in
place' like frames do. There are other options using layers and Divs but that is
advanced stuff. If you want to experiment then www.javascript.com might be of
use.
