NAV2007 and XP Security Center

Okay. So I didn't learn my lesson just what a piece of crap Norton is
but it's not my fault 'cause it's what I *have* to use at work. :-(

At any rate, after installing NAV2007 on several XP SP2 machines and
configuring it the way I wanted (hidden protection center icon and the
windows security center on automatic), two days later I discover that
the Security Center has been completely disabled! When I go to
'Services', it is apparently on 'automatic' but is stopped. When I
click on 'start', I get the following error message: Could not start
the Security Center service on local computer. Error 123 The filename,
directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.

What the hell?!?

Be that as it may, is there a way I can repair the security center and
get it working properly depite what Norton *thinks*. Bastards. Or
maybe I should lay the blame on the recent Windows Updates? Dunno.

Thanks in advance for any help with this issue - however advice to
install something else will be politely ignored at this time but
seriously considered for the future.

Well Windows Updates break Norton all of the time. And Norton is slower
than a snail to update its software to work with the newer updates and
sometimes newer OS.

Did you disable any other Symantec related services ?
Start/Run/services.msc
or
Modify any startup options in msconfig ?
Start/run/msconfig

Was XP's firewall(or another 3rd party) turned on when NAV2007 was installed ?

Have you modified any or both of Windows or Nav options for the either of their inherent Security Center ? (Note: they both need to communicate to each other to operate properly).

The Windows Security Center has been disabled by NAV which has replaced
it with its own Security Console (or whatever they are calling it). This
was a choice made during the installation of NAV and is unimportant. The
Windows Security Center is simply an alerter and provides no protection
(except for letting you know something may be wrong). This has nothing
to do with Windows Update.

Since you have NAV installed, allow its Security Console to run because
otherwise the program will nag you. It really makes no difference
whether you use the NAV Security Console or Windows Security Center.
Neither one of those functions are particularly useful in any case.

Not that I know of. I just installed NAV2007, updated it, enabled the
auto protect icon to appear in the system tray, moved the protection
center icon to the system tray and used the taskbar properties to
'always hide' it. Then I went to the admin tools - services (through
the control panel) and put the security center to automatic. I left
everything else alone. It's just really weird that I was able to
reactivate the Windows security center - though I don't think I
checked it after I did the last Windows Update (but not the one that
showed up today).

Probably two - XP and a free version of Zone Alarm.
Have you modified any or both of Windows or Nav options for the either of their inherentSecurity Center? (Note: they both need to communicate to each other to operate properly).

Again, not that I know of. When I looked at the path for the security
center, it says:
\SystemRoot\C:\\windows\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs

Now I may not know much about computers but that doesn't look right to
me. But the Update alert icons are still working appropriately...

Sigh. I don't know if there's any way to fix this issue but I really
do appreciate the help!
