NAV system scan causes PC to reboot

I have tried to make Norton Antivirus 2003 do a system scan, but haven't
succeeded so far. I keep NAV automatic live update on. What happens is that
Windows XP reboots after NAV has scanned some 50.000 files, usually while
scanning through some hidden directories of temporary Internet files. After
the reboot the message "your system has recovered from a serious error" is
displayed.
Is this a known problem? Could it be caused by some virus that NAV can't
handle? I keep being bombarded with e-mails with attached messages from my
Internet service provider saying that SWEN.A has been removed from an
attached file.

Try deleting your temporary internet files before doing the scan and see if
it works.
You can do that while in IE (Tools,Internet Options, Delete Files (check
Offline Contents) and click OK
It could also be a problem with the 'restore' feature in XP. ( it contains
even deleted viruses that can't be touched by antivirus programs until the
'restore' feature is disabled.)
Empty out your Deleted Items box in OE.
