Problem
-------
After the system boots up I receive the following error:
"Norton Protection Status encountered a problem and needed to close."

This is one of those messages asking if I want to send the report to
Microsoft.

The Error Signature states:

szAppName: NPROTECT.EXE
szAppVer: 16.0.0.22
szModName: NPROTECT.EXE
szModVer: 16.0.0.22
offset: 00008877

Info
----
Software: Norton NAV 2004 Pro (will all updates applied)
OS: Windows XP Pro SP2

Anyone know how I can fix the issue so I no longer receive the error OR how
to turn
off NPROTECT.EXE (which I believe replaces the default recycle bin)?

Often problems with Norton, require you to uninstall Norton, completely
clean yr sys of Norton, then perform a clean install of Norton

While connected to the internet, open Norton Anti-Virus and left click on
Help and Support {upper right corner}. Then left click on Help and Support
in the menu. The Symantec web support site will open and you can access an
automated help and support feature for assistance on your problem.

So, it has never worked properly?
The first step is to uninstall/install Norton.

A new install? then something went wrong.
Disable all start up apps prior to installing any AV
