NAV 2003 ccUpdate problem

P

Patrick E. King

OS in XP Home with SP1 and when I run LiveUpdate I can download the latest
Common Client update but it fails to install fully reporting that the files
ccPasswd.dl^ and ccTrust.dl^ in C:\windows\system32\ could not be updated.
Both files are version 1.0.8.1.
I've been to the Symantec website several time and have ended up chasing my
tail but not really getting anywhere fast. Also they do not seem to have a
form where I can report this error directly to a tech. This error started
after I had done a re-install to eliminate a different error message....*NAV
could not find the task etc.....*
Hope someone in here can help.
Regards
Patrick.

Thank you for contacting Symantec Online Technical Support. I look
forward to working toward a resolution to this issue.
Windows XP 5.1.2600 Service Pack 1Common Client Core 1.0.3
LiveUpdate was not able to complete this update.

The issue is occurring due to a mismatch version entry in the
LiveUpdate product catalog file. We have posted a new update on our
servers that will resolve this issue. You can run LiveUpdate to
download all available updates and have this issue resolved. Here is a
document that will help you in this regard:

The issue you are facing can be due to the Common Client updates that
is downloaded during the LiveUpdate process. At this point, as a
workaround, I suggest that you avoid downloading the Common Client
file by deselecting the option for Common Client in the LiveUpdate
welcome screen while running LiveUpdate.

Please follow the steps provided below:

1. Configure LiveUpdate to run in interactive mode.

LiveUpdate can run in either Interactive mode or in Express mode. In
Interactive mode you can select which updates you want to install. On
the other hand, in Express mode, LiveUpdate automatically downloads
and installs all available updates.

Please follow the steps provided in the following document in order to
switch to interactive mode:

Title: 'How to change modes in LiveUpdate 1.8'
Document ID: 2002121013485013
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/sharedtech.nsf/docid/200212101348
5013

2. Deselect the option for Common Client in the LiveUpdate Welcome
screen.

LiveUpdate downloads and installs not only Virus Definitions, but also
all updates to any Symantec software that is installed on your
computer. After LiveUpdate has determined which Symantec products have
available updates, you can check which ones you want to download and
install. By default, all the updates will be checked; I suggest that
you uncheck Common Client updates before running LiveUpdate.

The following document describes how to run LiveUpdate to download
updates one at a time when multiple updates are available:

Title: 'How to download updates one at a time when multiple updates
are available'
Document ID: 2002041914425813
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/sharedtech.nsf/docid/200204191442
5813

I am confident that you will find it to be help full in finding
valuable information on deselecting a particular update from
downloading.

Once all other available updates are downloaded (except the Common
Client updates), please restart the system.

As a next step, please try downloading only the Common Client updates
by deselecting all the other options in the LiveUpdate welcome screen.
After downloading the Common Client update, please restart the system.

If you have any further concerns or queries, please revert to my mail.

Thank you for contacting Symantec Online Technical Support.

I understand from your post that you are encountering an issue while

*MY final response:

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your help. I had already tried all your suggestions
repeatedly. I had to resort to an uninstall-install proceedure. This
*seems* to have resolved the problem. I will be in contact again if
the
problem arises. Again, thank you for all your help.

p.s. Make sure if you uninstall that you follow the uninstall
directions *exactly*. I have had no problems with it since...

HTH,
-jen
