nas accessible via ip not device name

Greetings all,

My problem is similar in nature to the 'ping ip address vs. ping computer
name', though slightly different.

I have a small home office network with 3 xp pro machines, 2 are desktops
wired into the lan, and the third is a notebook that connects via wireless
(it is running xp media center). I have a Linksys NSLU2 network storage
device (nas) wired into the lan (it connects 2 usb hard disks to the network).

The problem is that my notebook cannot see the name of Linksys storage
device within the workgroup. I am able to connect to the Linksys through the
ip address, but not through its network name. Both of the wired desktops are
fully able to see the Linksys either through Ip address or name within the
workgroup. All computers can see each other in name or Ip and file/printer
sharing works fine.

I tried to apply the suggestions I learned through the previous problem, but
they did not work in my case; I tried adding a LMHOST file, and I enabled
NetBios over Tcp/ip, but nothing has worked.

When I hard wire the notebook into the network, I am able to see the Linksys
in workgroup computers, but it tells me that the link is unavaiable.

Any suggestions?

Well, it's always good to be able to resolve your own problem.

The solution was simple, there was a personal firewall enabled within my
anti-virus software causing the problem. Once Disabled, my connections were
immediately visible.

Only took 3 days of looking in deep places, to fall back to a simple
solution; if only I knew before....

Thanks,

Stephen
