Hello,

Can I use special characters like '-', '_', '&', etc. to
name the Win2000 Server.

And also please tell me which special characters are
allowed for win2000 Server name.

Thanks in advance

That depends which name you are reffering to. Netbios name? fully qualified
domain name? To adhere to the dns standard, only dash and alphanumeric
characters should be used. Then again, an underscore is converted to a dash
by dns name resolution.

Thanks, Salt

I am referring to netbios name.

I need this 2000 server as a domain controller with DNS
server and Active directory, So I need to know whether by
using any special characters in netbios name will effect
the working of the server with mentioned services running
on it.

So you say that a netbios name like "abcd_xy" is valid for
a server and I am not planning for FQDN instead thinking
of using "abcd.local"

Will this work fine.
