name suggestion function

The "name suggestion" function in Outlook has stopped
working (this is where you type, for instance, Sharon,
and the system gives you a few options from e-mails that
you've previously sent). Yet, when I looked at "Advanced
E-mail Options", the "suggest names" function was checked.

Why would it have stopped working?

A corruption of the NK2 file or your profile. I'd try renaming (or
deleting) your .NK2 file and let Outlook recreate it.
