Outlook "auto suggest" email problem

I just got a new laptop w/ a new e-mail and I'm having trouble configuring
the auto-suggest setting for the e-mail to, cc, bcc...

I added some addresses in the address book (first name, last name, tele#,
email) but when I type, for instance, one of their last names, nothing comes
up. I made sure that the auto-suggest option was checked in the advanced
e-mail setting.

Any thoughts or ideas?

The AutoSuggest feature works based on addresses that you've used before;
it's a cache. It doesn't hold a direct relation to contact in your Contacts
folder.

To autocomplete the part of the address that you have typed, press CTRL+K or
the Check Names button.

Assuming you're talking about the list that shows up as you type in the address
fields...

The suggestions don't come from your address book but instead come from people
you've mailed on that machine, in that email profile.

If you want to move the suggestions from your old machine, take a look at
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011394511033.aspx otherwise,
just start emailing people and it'll build as you go.

You can't add contacts properly using the address book interface. Use your
Contacts folder.

Okay well I've been using my outlook for 2 weeks now, emailing multiple
people. Some have their full names associated to the e-mails, some don't.

For example:

If I want to e-mail John Doe, I can start typing John and it'll show his it
as Doe, John. However, most will remember the email address, but not their
names (i.e. (e-mail address removed))

What is the reason for this?
