O
OFFICIAL RAM BLUEBOOK VALUATION
Hi,
This MYSTERY is a tough one . . .
My system is PC-based, Windows 98SE, 256MB RAM, IE6 and OE6 with 56K
dial-up.
All software is latest and greatest available via MS downloads and upgrades
courtesy of http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp
When I click on the icon for OE or IE, my dial-up connection is invoked and
the software dials into my ISP and I am connected. This is good.
Unfortunately, in off-line mode, when I click on other icons on my desktop,
Norton WinDoctor, for example, before loading the icon's software, my
dial-up connection is invoked and the software dials into my ISP. Before
connecting, I typically CANCEL the dial-up, close the Dial-up Connection
window, and then the icon's software loads properly.
I checked the PROPERTIES of all my desktop icons thinking there was an
operator or some other instruction added to the Target: or Start in: lines,
but nothing has been added - these lines are okay.
I have no idea why this is happening as I can not trace it to any software
that I have loaded. In fact, I have not loaded any software for several
months and I clean my system ENTIRELY on a daily basis (i.e. cookies, TIFs,
WinTEMP, etc.)
Any thoughts MS-MVPs???
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Brian Gervais
