This tilde (~) file is a copy of your Windows Address Book, a *.wab
file. It is do to a bug in an update to Outlook Express. This has been
around for a couple of months.
The ~ file happens when changes are made to your Address Book. Just
delete the ~ file. It will reappear again with changes to the Address Book.
This ~ file may show up in other places besides the Desktop. Appears to do
no harm except the wasted time people spend trying to find out what the hell
it is. Hope you haven't wasted too much time. I wasted time doing a search
for ~. ~ appears as a wild card, apparently, and the search wanted to list
my hard drive's entire contents. Hope this helps. Let us know.
