My Windows XP is broken. Can someone tell me what I should do?

I have Windows XP.

Everything has been working great for months. My printer has worked fine. I
can print from every program.

Starting a few days ago, when I restart Windows XP, I receive an error from
spoolsv.exe that says it errored while accessing memory. And now because of
this error, I can not access anything related to printing in any program.
Usually any program which accesses printing will hang. Word will hang.
Internet explorer... Any program. If I press Start --> Settings --> Printers
and Fax the menu will hang.

About the time this happened ,I let Symantec LiveUpdate upgrade my
PC-Anywhere. But I don't usually run PC-Anywhere and currently it is not
running in host mode or otherwise. I don't know if this is related to my
problem or not.

I have posted on the newsgroups and no one replies to me. I don't know what
to do. I'm thinking that some dll is messed up or something. I can't find a
phone number of Symantec's web site unless I want to pay them. Symantec's
web site says their email help is 4 day behind.

I can't print anything from my PC and that is really hurting my
productivity.

Can someone PLEASE tell me what I should do. Should I uninstall something?
Should I call someone? Should I copy something? What should I do?

Contact your printer manufacturer to see what they say.
Maybe they know something. Maybe they don't. I know for
one thing for sure it is not Symantec's problem though.
Programs are unrelated to each other even though you did
update around the time it happened.

And now because of pay
them. Symantec's
.
The first thing you need to do is completely remove the
printer and any files associated with it. Then reload the
printer software. If this doesn't work it is time to
contact Microsoft.

Several thought come to the fore. Have you removed the printer and then
reinstalled with a clean driver?

Can you remove PC-Anywhere, at least temporarily? Try these two steps
first and as a last resort reinstall Win XP. Be SURE your data is backed
up first!!!!!

I will try uninstalling PC-Anywhere.

I can't uninstall the printer. As I said before... Everything printer
related hangs what ever you are doing. To uninstall the printer I would
click:

Start
then
Settings
then
Printers and Faxes

But.. As soon as I click that menu entry the menu system hangs. Two levels
of Start menu become frozen open on my screen. Clicking doesn't do anything.
They stay frozen until I do a restart. It is really weird.

You might search on Restore. Restore helped me once when I accidently messed
up communications. Restore will let you restore your system to a previous
date. However you may lose some data.

Shouldn't do - restore does not affect the users data folders.....

Maybe someone answered you in one of your other crosspostings. This is a
no-no! You don't crosspost. I think you need to reinstall the printer.
I also would get rid of PC Anywhere if you are not using it. And I
don't let any program automatically download upgrades. Since in many
cases they aren't necessary. And sometimes the upgrades are pulled
because they found a problem. And then what do you do? :)

Hi,

Can you go into the administrative tools under Processes, stop the
spoolsv.exe process and then restart it?
Check in your Help and Support window under XP (Start/Help and Support) and
then type in spoolsv.exe to see what turns up. Editing the registry can be a
bit tricky, so be careful if you decide to do the following procedure.
