I have Window's XP installed on a computer that I
purchased from Gateway. My warranty from Gateway has
expired so that won't answer my question. My version of
XP doesn't have a back up utility. I read something on a
FAQ page at Microsoft that says that the back-up utility
isn't something that is automatically installed during
normal installation of XP...and that you have to go back
and actually get it off the disk. I've tried to do that,
but it doesn't show the file/program anywhere on the
disk. I don't know if it's because the Gateway drivers
are located on the same disk as XP...and maybe they
removed selective Window's files. Does anyone have any
suggestion on how I can get the back-up utility or how I
might otherwise back up my files?? Any help would be
appreciated.

Hi

The backup utility isn't installed by default with XP Home Edition.
Depending on what kind of XP CD you have, the backup utility may be found in
the valueadd\msft\ntbackup folder on the XP Home CD.

Just stick your XP CD in the CD drive and then do a Start/Search enter
ntbackup - ok - it should find it on the CD and install it.
