My text looks like this quite often and I cannot fix it

Here is my first attempt at a story. All of the usual disclaimers
apply.
Some of you might be wondering whether or not this story is true. To
you
all I have to say is that it does not matter. I hope that you enjoy
it.
 
Well, your example doesn't really illustrate what is happening. Perhaps it
would be better if you described it in words instead, since newsgroup format
is not very good for reproducing what you see in Word.
 
Just as in the sample below.
One line shows all the way across as it should. When it wraps or returns to
continue the next line, only one or two words show before it wraps or returns
to start the next line.

So it looks like this. A nice long part of what I write goes here
but then
it does this and leaves a big gap at every other line that never
fills in.

That paragraph should look like this:

Do you have Show Non-Printing Characters turned on? (Click the
paragraph-mark button in the toolbar/ribbon.) Which one do you see at
the end of each mini-line?
 
It does sound very much as if there are paragraph or line breaks at the ends
of the short lines.
