my system has slowed

I recently had a virus or spyware attack my computer and I used an up to date anti virus program and a spyware program.
HOWEVER, my computer continues to run very slow (not normal for my new system).

Also, when I run the adware program it finds 3 or 4 potential problems and so I quarantine them, then more pop up when I run the adware again even without having been on the internet between the scans for problems.

Why do you think my computer is running so slow even after scanning with anti virus and spyware

Brian,
Don't quarantine the files, delete them. Make sure you have the latest
updates for all your security software. Double check that you have the
latest updates from Windows Update while you're at it. Download and install
Spybot Search and Destroy and Pest Patrol. Update them after they have
installed.

Disable the System Restore function as malware hides in there, waiting to
come out after you run your scans. Remember that when you disable System
Restore you will lose all the restore points. I use the Google Toolbar to
help control popups. All these applications are free.

Clean out your cookies and temporary internet files. Limit the number of
applications that load at startup and then run in the background. You can
check out www.blackviper.com for other ways to free up resources and help
speed up your system. Look for the link to Windows XP Services
Configurations.

Disconnect Internet
Restart computer in Safe Mode (see Help(F1) for more information), and
scan it using all these programs, antivirus first
