I'm having the exact same problem with my computer. I have win98 se, 19GB
hard drive, 128MB Ram. It happened after I installed the GDI detection tool
update. Did you also install this update?

I have tried defragging my computer, updating my Office programs, and
running virus scan to see if there was a bug in my computer. Nothing has
helped so far.

Sorry I can't be much help, but maybe if we put our heads together and can
figure out commonalities between our systems, we can figure out why it's
happening.

Hi Michelle,

This isn't guaranteed to solve the problem, but it's worth a try. Use
Windows Explorer to search all of your hard disks for files with a .XLB
extension. Delete any that you find. Note that these may be a hidden files,
so you'll need to set Explorer to show hidden files before searching.

Excel uses these files to store information about its toolbar
configuration, but they frequently become corrupt and cause strange errors
like this. Excel will create clean new default versions after you delete the
old corrupt ones, but you will lose any toolbar customizations you've made.
