My spell checker keeps switching to spanish, on its own..

I'll be in the middle of typing a sentence in word and it automatically
switches to spanish on me.. For no reason. I change it back to English (U.S.)
and then in 2 seconds its back to spanish. I'm a medical student so a lot of
the text I'm typing may not seem like English, but I've even tried checking
the box preventing it from switching but it still does! Any ideas?

Be sure to uncheck the "Automatically Detect Language" button in the
Set Language panel.

Just to expand on "grammatin"'s comments below:

If you are using Word 2007 then you can disable/enable the automatic
language detection settings here:
Review -> Set Language [under subsection Proofing] -> Uncheck/Check "Detect
Language Automatically"

If you are using Word 2003 goto Tools > Language > Set Language >
Uncheck/Check 'detect language automatically'
