my sound wont work in anything but media player

Help?
I upgraded my mother board to an ASUS A7V600 with onbard
sound. My media player will play the music but I do not
hear anything in Internet Explorer or windows default
sounds.

Michelle, did you look in Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices>Sound.
Make sure that Windows Default is showing in the Sound Scheme box. Did you
install the XP drivers for your Integrated Sound.?

Dumb answer perhaps but check to make sure wave volume isn't muted and is
turned up. If you can play music through media player, I'm assuming its from
a cd - so sound works somewhat.
