My sound disappeared

I upgraded to Windows 2000 on my Toshiba Lifebook and lost
my sound in the process. I'm not sure what to do next.

Try to check device manager to see if its a driver problem. If so update the
device driver.

The Windows 2000 version of that driver is not provided on the 2000 CD. You
will need to go to Toshiba's website to get the latest drivers. Here's a
link : http://www.eid.toshiba.com/support/swdrivers.shtml

As a side not it is important to note that Microsoft does not write the
drivers that are provided on the CD, they are written by the hardware
manufacture and given to us to put on the CD as a convenience to the
customer. Sometimes manufactures do not a driver ready in time to go on the
CD so they provide it later on their website.
