my remote site is on the web, my local on the pc. i am in the screen where i can see them both displayed. i am making changes to the local site, highlite the file, make the change on the displayed remote site, and click the publish button with the local to remote choice selected.

local to remote, remote being the web server

Assuming both versions of your site are current, with your local site open
in FrontPage, open a page, make your change and save it, then select File |
Publish Site, enter your username and password for your remote web site, and
click OK. This will publish any changes you've made on your local site to
your remote site.

The local site is the site that you first open, whether is on your pc or a remote server, the remote
site is the second site open or the one you are publishing to.

the really frustrating part of this is that everything says it is working.
the publish log shows a successful publish. my site is now blank! should i
assume my software is faulty?

What do you mean by blank? Is your remote site view empty? Or, is the page
blank when you bring up www.yoursite.com in your browser?

Post a URL to the published site online
- check that your home page filename is the same as that required by your host
Also post the URL you are publishing to
